MANCHESTER TERRIER |
|
The Manchester Terrier is an elegant small terrier in with a distinctive black and tan colouring and an easy-to-care-for short coat. It has a playful and amusing disposition, along with a bigger bark than its small size suggests. They are very loyal and quickly become attached to their family and close friends, but will always bark when there is a knock at the door. They are not, however, yappy, and make a very good dog for an inner-city household.
The Mannie was originally bred as a ratter, with a mix of Black and Tan Terrier and Whippet lines. With their long legs and muscular body, they have a remarkable turn of speed, but are happy with a short walk around the block if you can't let them off for a good game of chasings in the park. |

They can be boisterous, but can also be lapdogs when they feel like it. They do not make good outdoors-only dogs, due to their short coat and their dislike of water. In Winter, they are heat-seekers extraordinaire, snuggling under blankets or curled on the sofa.
They are very handsome dogs, and attract a lot of attention, even if the question is 9 times out of ten, "Is that a Dobermann?", or even, occasionally, "Is that a Dachshund?" (?). As the Manchester is reputed to be part of the Dobermann genetic mix, I always say, "No, the Dobermann looks like the Manchester, not the other way around".
